Backups and an off-site copy

Nightly backups of every app, and a copy in any S3-compatible bucket: AWS, Hetzner, Backblaze, R2 or MinIO.

Scheduled backups

In the portal: Admin, Settings, Backups

On by default. Every night cyantula backs up each app's databases and the folders it keeps, and lists them on the app's Backups tab with Restore. Default schedule is a cron line such as 0 2 * * * or @daily; an owner can pick another schedule for their own app.

The backups are kept on the server itself. A disk that fails takes them along, so add an off-site copy.

An off-site copy in S3-compatible storage

With a bucket filled in, every backup is also uploaded there, and removed there when it is pruned. Any S3-compatible storage works.

  1. Create a bucket that is only for these backups. Keep it private.
  2. Create an access key that may only write, read and delete in that bucket, nothing else.
  3. Fill in Off-site bucket, access key and secret key, and the endpoint of your provider (empty for AWS itself).
